MLK Day, Monday, Jan 18, 2016
On the cool morning of January 18th, a great community celebration took place in Old Fort Park to celebrate the life and work of Martin Luther King Jr. There was a great turnout, despite the wind and chill, and in bright sunshine, the SEV Community Choir rendered’ Amazing Grace’, ‘When the Saints go Marching In’, and Martin Luther King’s favorite hymn, ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing’.
Habitat volunteers, and our AmeriCorps National Service member Austin Falter attended, along with many community members and dignitaries, and some sang in the choir.
The celebration in the park was preceded by a march through town from the Black Heritage Museum.
