CALLING ALL WOMEN: Lend a Hand for Habitat!

Women Build Week

Women Build Week

Women volunteers will raise their hammers, nail guns and paintbrushes at Habitat for Humanity construction sites across the country, in recognition of National Women Build week, May 5-13. Now in its sixth year, this week challenges women to devote at least one day to help create simple, affordable housing in their local communities. Over 31, 000 women from all 50 states have participated in this event. This year, we will help prepare a house for a local family in Edgewater, and promote recruitment of volunteer women from age 16 up to help support Habitat’s mission to create affordable housing.

To date, women volunteers have helped construct more than 2,000 homes nationwide. Locally, SE Volusia Habitat for Humanity has served over 100 families, building new homes and re- designing others through ‘Brush with kindness’ and other home repair programs. Women have routinely contributed their time and talents to our community, and this year we are continuing by celebrating Mother’s Day through a women’s fellowship, working together to provide a decent and safe home for a local family.National Women Build week is held the week leading up to Mother’s Day because of its significance to Habitat homeowners and volunteers. Families with children make up a staggering number of those in need of adequate housing. More than 12 million children live in poverty in the USA.Ladies, please join us in our efforts. Pick up a paintbrush, and join your sisters in celebrating the power of women, giving to families in our own community as we paint the inside and outside of this house.
